As many of you know we have exchange students in our home. We have had students from Japan, China, Turkey and Korea. For the most part when they come, they bring us gifts to show their appreciation for letting them stay with us. Right now we have two students living with us. Troy, from China, who speaks very good english and Sakie, from Japan, who speaks no english. Sakie, came on Monday. Last night after dinner she said she had some gifts for us. She had a couple little toys for the girls and a coin purse for me. For Scott, she gave him an ear wax stick...made from bamboo and used to clean out your ears!! Troy, the boy from China, explained to us that this is a very common gift. Scott and I had to try very hard to keep a straight face and be grateful.
So if you are ever visiting a foreign country, just get a box of q-tips and tell them it is a very common gift!!!
