Our life is full of milestones. Big ones and small ones. With small children it seems like we reach one almost daily, for at least one of us. Today, Savannah, who will be five next week got her ears pierced. She has been asking for months and we decided she could get it done for her birthday and before she begins kindergarten. She was so brave. I explained to her that it would hurt, but she insisted that she wanted to so we went to the wonderful mall and got it done. She and I both cried...but when she saw how beautiful her ears were it seemed like the pain was instantly gone. So, a milestone, in the life of a child is the big day of getting your ears pierced. Soon she will be going to kindergarten and I am quickly realizing that my influence on her will greatly be reduced. As a mother you have such a small window of time when your children are truly yours. We try hard to teach them the things that we believe are important to us and important for them to know before they venture out into the world. Then we pray that they remember those things.
